We believe in Jesus!
We believe that about 2000 years ago, the one and only God of the universe, sent His Son, to be born on this earth of a virgin, to demonstrate righteous living to the world. We believe that after about 33 years, He allowed Himself to be crucified by the Romans as a sinless sacrifice for mankind. We believe that by shedding His blood on that day, He provided redemption for men and women from their sins. We believe that the Bible records these events, accurately and completely.
We believe that God created man and woman in a sinless state but with the ability to choose right from wrong. The first man and woman chose to disobey God. In every generation since then, men and women have yielded to the temptation of sin, separating themselves from God. God chooses not to be in the presence of sin. Sin places a dividing wall between an individual and the perfection of God.
Jesus is the only man to live on this earth without sinning. That’s why He is uniquely qualified to provide us a way to restore our relationship with God.
Until Jesus Christ came into this world, lived a sinless life, offered Himself as a sacrifice for us, and was raised from the dead, there was no way for man to be restored to a righteous state before God.
God provides salvation to all who will believe in Him and obey His commandments. We want everyone to be saved and we’re here to help you in your search for God’s will.
We believe the Bible!
We believe that God inspired the writers of the Bible, making the words literally “God breathed,” and that it contains the mind of God. We believe that it matters what the Bible says about our lives and that we must study the Bible to show ourselves approved before God. An unwillingness to seek the will of God makes us like rebellious children and God is displeased with such an attitude.
We believe that within the pages of the Bible is everything that a person must know to become a Christian and live pleasing to God.
We believe that it is not pleasing for us to “make up our own forms of religion.” We believe that the Bible provides a pattern that, if followed, will lead to unity among believers and a life that is consistent with God’s will for us.
We plead for unity of all believers in Jesus based on God’s Word. We believe that to have unity, we must reject human doctrines and follow the divine pattern found in the Bible.
We believe that religious divisions are displeasing to God. Therefore, we plead for a faith based only on the revealed will of God! Jesus prayed for perfect unity of all who believed on Him. Can we unite in faith to allow God answer that prayer through us?
We seek the promises!
When Jesus was here, He promised that after His death and resurrection, He would go to His Father and prepare a place for His disciples to be with Him. We are looking forward to His return to take us home. When He returns, He will judge each of us and the faithful will be taken to heaven to spend eternity in the place He has prepared.
Jesus Christ promised that His disciples would be blessed in this life, as well as the life to come. We claim the promise and live like blessed people, knowing a peace that is beyond understanding or explanation. We believe that Christians are blessed as they live faithfully on this earth in the present life. As Christians, we are children of the Creator of the Universe!
True Christians have been forgiven of past sins. Furthermore, the blood that Jesus shed in dying on the cross continues to cleanse us from every new sin as we repent and ask for forgiveness.
Jesus promised to build His church. The church that Christ promised to build came into existence on the first Pentecost day following His resurrection, as recorded in the New Testament in Acts 2. We serve a forgiving God. He is anxious for each of us to become part of His spiritual family, which is His church.
We call everyone to this life of wonderful promises that cannot be broken!
Personal Bible Study…
How much do you know about what the Bible says for your life? Have you read the Bible much? Do you find it easy to understand or is it confusing and overwhelming?
When the end of time comes, we will each be judged according to what we have done in our lives. Our judgment will be based on the words that are recorded in the Bible. The forgiven will be welcomed into eternal life in heaven, and the unforgiven will spend eternity in a place of torment. It is very important to study the Bible and to live our lives according to the will of God.
Members of the Winterville church of Christ would be pleased to study the Bible with you and help you apply the word of God to your life. If you have not studied or read the Bible much, it is hard to know where to begin. We would like to show you how to study so that you can develop a faith in God that is based on your personal knowledge of what the Bible says. You will no longer have to rely on someone telling you what to believe. Why not let us help you? We will never try to force our will on you in any way.
Special Assistance…
We believe that Jesus expects every Christian to be a servant of others. We believe that a faith that is not expressed in good works is a dead faith and displeasing to God. Through the grace of God, we have been reborn to a life of good works. We demonstrate our devotion to God by serving others.
